Travel Trends We Think Will Carry Into 2022

We noticed a huge rise in visitors in 2021 and with that came different travel trends than we are used to. Because of the year 2020 of people being quarantined in their homes and not able to see friends and family as often as they would like, people were flocking to the beach in 2021. Spending more time outside and in a different environment was the key factor in the increase of visitors. We noticed three travel trends in 2021 that we believe will carry over into 2022. These are important to know and understand. As property managers, we can better plan for the occupancy of units which helps with revenue insight, maintenance, and more.

Travel Trends to Watch in 2022

  1. Last-Minute Stays

In previous years, people would book their stay weeks or even months in advance. This would give them ample time to plan and pack. This year, we saw a surge in people booking last-minute stays. We would receive inquiries from guests about availability with just a few days’ notice. We don’t see this trend staying in 2021. With people still working from home, there is more flexibility in when they can get away to the Gulf Coast.

  1. Spring and Summer

Spring and summer are our busiest months of the year. We can normally prepare for that in advance and make sure our team is up to date on procedures and standards to equip them for the busy season. However, this past year we were surprised to see the influx of people taking a spring or summer vacation. It was one of the most crowded seasons we have ever seen. This year we anticipate the same crowd and are already preparing for the season in 2022.

  1. Year-Round

Not only did we see an increase in visitors in the spring and summer months, but we also noticed that it didn’t die down too much during the off-season months. Year-round travel picked up in 2021. This follows the same idea that people are working from home more than they ever have and kids can do remote learning. With that, they travel in the off-season to experience better rates, fewer crowds, and cooler temperatures.

We hope these three travel trends carry into 2022 and that we can continue to host visitors along the Gulf Coast!
