What’s Happening in the Vacation Rental Industry?

An Update From FVRMA and the Vacation Rental Industry ~ Join Southern

Southern is a member of and has a voice with one of the largest vacation rental management associations in the United States, Florida VRMA (FVRMA). Joe Casal, Director of Brand Ambassadors, is a member of the Board and frequently communicates with other vacation rental managers all across the state. During a normal year, FVRMA provides resources for members including industry education, legislative updates, and advocacy for the vacation rental business. However, in light of COVID-19, the FVRMA team has worked even harder lobbying for vacation rentals, calling for our governor to lift the suspension on vacation rentals so that we can start welcoming guests back to our beaches again.

Southern has been actively engaged with that leadership to assist with creating a reasonable timeline to begin accepting guests back to our beaches. Just like most people and businesses along the Gulf Coast, Southern’s first priority is the health and safety of our staff, guests, and communities. Our approach has shifted from an aggressive marketing strategy to instead maintaining a positive presence in the marketplace. We’ve launched a “When You Are Ready” campaign, promoting this message through emails, social media, and business-to-business relationships. Just like you, we are patiently waiting for the safest and smartest time to open back up to our communities.

We have utilized this time to reevaluate our processes and policies to adapt to the ever-changing climate. Working with associations like FVRMA and networking with other companies, we see that expectations across the state and county are changing as well as globally. This includes changes to our cleaning strategy and potentially a more relaxed cancellation policy, and trends involving a shorter booking window and flexible length of stays. Southern is taking a hard look at these opportunities to ensure that we continue to stay at the forefront of the vacation rental industry.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Southern!
